Ordinary to Extraordinary: The Story of Gladys Aylward
LENGTH: 45 minutes (Performed since 2003)
A story about what God can do with a surrendered life
Has God created us for a purpose? Is our life our own or was it purchased by a loving Savior in order to serve Him by serving others. Only a completely surrendered life will know.
Ordinary to Extraordinary is a humorous, yet inspiring true story about Gladys Aylward (1902-1970), a hard-working parlour maid, who wanted to serve Jesus, her Savior. Gladys knew she was very ordinary but she had given her life completely over to the Lord to be used however He saw fit.
For Gladys it turned out to be China! Rejected by the China Inland Mission Training Center in London, she struck out on her own. In the 1930′s she found herself in a country where she didn’t speak the language and knew no one. Yet the Lord had a plan for this little woman who had great faith in her God. She found herself running an inn for muleteers; working as a foot inspector; stopping a prison riot and rescuing 94 orphans. She eventually learned the language and shared the good news of the gospel wherever she went! Her life wasn’t easy but it went from ordinary to extraordinary.
God’s plan for our life is often very different from the plans we have, or others have, for us. However, God, alone, knows what He has created us to do, if we would only surrender, seek and persevere in that purpose.
